Un endroit sans droits.

Soundcloud is a tropical jungle, it is dense, ever evolving, and sometimes it puts a strain on oneself. One can get lost, without without food for thoughts for days. And then, it’s sunny again.
I follow labels, I follow bands, I am often disappointed, sometimes happy.
Those are my gurus, tribal men. One of them is a dowser, I quench my thirst.

Mines, factories, nuclear plants; it’s in north France and Belgium that music is cutting edge and ghetto-subway-core. The last EP from Pelican Fly is a massacre, in a good way.

It’s all in the kickdrum. Now you know. It goes

dum-dudum-dum-----dum.
----
----
Dum—dum

It may be almost as good as the first one.

On may try to find bruvs, but one can’t see them.

ASS

Future as always been kind of scary, but somehow with her head on my chest and our pubes tangled, it’s easy to forget it. There are others details like hips and lips and the bed moving and the neighbours listening to music very loudly. With the sun shining over us and people possibly watching us having sex and her boobs looking at me at breakfast, things look really easy. I could get married and live happily ever after if nothing ever changed. I guess all I ever needed was a girl I would not want to screw things up with. (YES THAT'S A PREPOSITION AND FUCK YOU)

Tanlines’ album is finally out and well it’s great. Listen to it asap. Thanks.

So you know, last year and the year before, one of the big thing was that shit people called post-dubstep which really was more deconstructed R&B than anything else. I was a big listener of James Blake and How To Dress Well. Well there’s a bit of this and that in Lapalux’ music, with more samples. There is also a bit of witch house : listen to Gone and think of Salem, and some lighter tunes like Yellow 90’s. Shining like an acid disco ball, this one is easier to get. Still, none of these tracks will be love at first hearing I guess.

Lapalux is an experimental pop artist quite similar to Baths, one of my personal favorites. The beats bite, they’re sour, and arrhythmic, the vocals are ethereal, sometimes fading, sometimes shrilling. These songs lack apparent structure, but there’s a deep emotional content, an apparent weakness and a heart-breaking fragility in them, in the mumbled lyrics or in the shooting sounds or in the warped vocals. I’d walk long walks at night listening to him, in empty streets ; I’ll dodge whores and drunkards, nasty kids and begging homeless and walk hours without even thinking about it.

I guess I know why I love 102 Hours of Introduction best. I looked for that feeling a long time, but I finally found what its beginning reminded me of : the saddest and most beautiful song ever. For information, this song is Hot Chip and Robert Wyatt’s «We’re Looking For A Lot Of Love » remixed by Geese. I’ve no idea where this connection comes from and I don’t care, I just cherish it for the sake of it. It also reminds me lightly of Vondelpark and Jacques Greene’s Another Girl but that doesn’t really matter.

Crazy diamonds

Do you think we’ll ever be happy ? she asked.

We had just made love, and everything was quiet and soft and I was leaving in something like half an hour. It was always hard to leave, but that was always better than the first time I left, which meant things were coming to an end.

I did not light a cigarette. The question was not as sad as you might think, and it was true we had been through hell a few times. But these times did not matter, since we had easily overcome them. I did not know better than anyone, I did know better than her, but looking at the face I loved so much, I knew it was well worth giving it a try.

I already talked about Class Actress briefly, but I’m obsessed and so should you - and this song was in  Chronicle. Yup, as a Friday Night Lights fan, I saw Chronicle and John Carter but whatever. I love how the synths buzz, how this sounds so 80’s. It reminds me of the first time my brother heard Hungry Like The Wolf and said « This is good, what is it ? » without realizing it was 30 years old.

Class Actress sounds like that : you know where it comes from, a place lost in time and space where lipstick glowed in the dark and night clubs were still cool, but it kind of recreates it here and now. It never sounds old, never corny. There’s a despair in Elizabeth Harper’s high-pitched voice, in her begging but resigned lyrics that feels like a modern pain, like seeing your lover offline on gtalk. That comparison does not sound quite right but there’s a litterary romanticism that hits a soft spot in me.

When I saw this song this morning, I could not resist the urge to click on it. It’s just Antoine Doinel talking over a nice sample with added drums. As anyone with a brain and a heart, I, not surprisingly, love François Truffaut (and would give a lot to be young Jean-Pierre Léaud just for a day), so I’m pretty psyched.

Sunday Night Fever

As if things could change, as if she could lie down next to me, as if something else was possible, Sunday night seems to be the time in between dreams (and no I do not love Jack Johnson, I just thought for a moment that his songs were ok).

In the end, indeed, nothing ever changes radically, things just evolve slowly, and shits are never as right as rain. To break this Sunday pessimism, two songs that smell like glory, two rappers, because yes, most of the time, Hip Hop is your only real friend.

A lot of things have been said about Jay Z in the past week, about Blue Ivy, Beyonce, and the fact that he is to stop swearing on the M.I.C. Nevertheless no one evokes the far off days when Jay Z made decent music, like in this song from his album « Blue Print 2 » (and yes the sample is from Ennio Morricone).

Things have changed, indeed. In the rap game Curren$y is quite a rookie, a newcomer who is dreaming to step on the royal stairs to finally be the new one on the throne. Long story short, he is not alone, he manages to get very cool featurings with Jay Electronica, and Mos Def for instance like in this track from his “Pilot Talk” opus.

And yes tomorrow is the day.

Cheers.

now that's poetry in motion

i took a bath and read e. e. cummings' erotic poems. my dick floated before my eyes, and i thought about her still laying naked on the couch-turned-bed in the living room.

i had wanted to write about her since a long time, but it now seemed vain. i guess no one can really evoke the swirl that love is as well as edward estlin.

yourbodyleaning
forward,
arms stretched like a cat’s,lips
licked and hairpulled
and cheeks…….stroked and buttocks.
slapped and              mouths
opened and moanings heard
and fingers               crossed.
Names called and
blah -

                                   blah,

roses are
red,
violets are
blue,
let’s go to bed,
O how i love you.
