When to say no?

Artists are forever pushing the boundaries of tolerance,no biggy,nothing new, but why?. The obvious answer is by definition as an artist you have to be unique, to evoke through your given medium a meaning of some sort or another that is relative to yourself (the artist) and the people (bottom feeders). A tricky criteria to fulfil as you can imagine.

Spoek Mathambo (never heard of until today,turns out he's South African,yay! the joys of blogging)has given his dark twist on the Joy Division track "She Lost Control". Joy Division famous for their moody almost ironic form of expression, and perhaps the inevitable dark downwards spiral that came as a result leading to the suicide of frontman Ian Curtis, are something of British institution in their own bleak anomic way. For Spoek Mathambo to evoke a new relative piece of music from something that held such an intrinsically "Joy Division ethos" is a dark daunting prospect in itself. Up to you what you make of it. I think I like it but maybe that's just because im South African.
